BATTLESHIPS
A "hull number" makes a U.S. Navy ship truly
unique. For example,
U.S.S. Missouri (BB-63)
sailing in World War II can be distinguished from the
U.S.S. Missouri (BB-11)
sailing with the Great White Fleet on the basis of hull number.
(Ships of a similar design will very likely have consecutive hull numbers.)
